PMP exam pattern changes - Education - Special Education

Effective 31st August 2011, the PMP exam will be modified based on Project Management Professional (PMP)Role Delineation Study (RDS) carried out by PMI. Here is some important information regarding the change and how it will impact the PMP exam:Changes to the PMP examThe last day to take the PMP exam in the current version will be 30th August 2011. Candidates who intend to take the current version of the exam need to schedule their exam early in order to ensure that they obtain a test date before the exam update.Changes in the eligibility criteriaThe eligibility criteria will remain the same.Changes to the PMBOK GuideThe update of the exam according to the new RDS does not affect the PMBOK Guide, so candidates should continue to study the Fourth Edition, as well as other current project management titles.Differences between the New and Existing ExamThe multiple-choice exam content of the PMP exam will change. As per PMI, approximately 30% of the content on the PMP exam is new or has substantial changes to reflect the roles as defined by the RDS. This will result in existing items being updated wherever applicable, with new exam items being developed to meet these requirements, and old items which do not meet the criteria being retired.

Certain areas of the exam will be tested in a different way because they were seen to be common across all content areas of the exam. Specifically, the Professional and Social Responsibility content area (Domain 6) will now be tested in every domain rather than as a separate domain on the exam. As such, PMI's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct is now integrated into the day-to-day role of a project manager, emphasizing its importance in each phase of the project lifecycle.Effects on current credential holderIf you currently hold the PMP credential, the release of the new RDS has limited impact for you since the primary result of the RDS is to update the PMP exam. PMI will review the results of this RDS to determine whether it requires updates to be made to the PMP Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) program. PMI expects that any changes to this program will be announced in Q4 2010.We advise you to TAKE and PASS the PMP exam before the changes are made. Do not wait till the last minute...
